Ostriches on a farm

Call on these fashion giants to ban ostrich feathers

Ostrich feathers are fashion’s new fur

Every year, tens of millions of wild animals are exploited for fashion, with their bodies turned into materials for clothes, shoes, bags and accessories.

The fashion industry pushes the myth that ostrich feathers are simply collected when birds naturally moult. But ostriches don’t shed their feathers on cue for fashion.

A World Animal Protection investigation has uncovered the hidden reality behind commercial ostrich feather farming, including rarely-seen footage of live ostriches having their feathers pulled out with pliers to supply the fashion industry.

Five feather laggards – Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, NET-A-PORTER, Neiman Marcus and REVOLVE - are still profiting from the sale of clothing and accessories made with ostrich feathers.

We’ve been urging them to change, but we need you behind us to strengthen our message.

Ostriches are social and emotionally aware animals. They form bonds, care for their young and can live for 30 to 40 years in the wild.

They deserve a life of their own, not one reduced to a feather trim for a dress or handbag.

Fashion doesn’t need ostrich feathers. It’s time for the industry to choose a wildlife-friendly future.

Take a stand against ostrich cruelty. Call on these five fashion giants who are stuck in the past.

Ostriches like Eddy belong in the wild, not on the runway

Eddy and his ostrich friends are more than the feathers the fashion industry takes from them.

They are emotionally aware and social animals who form bonds within their herds, care for their young and experience the world around them. Yet in the feather trade, they are reduced to a material.

Ostriches bred for their feathers can be killed far younger than their natural lifespan, with many never reaching their first birthday.

No animal should suffer so their feathers can become part of a fashion trend, especially when the industry has access to innovative, beautiful and responsible alternatives.

By speaking up today, you can help show Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, NET-A-PORTER, Neiman Marcus and REVOLVE that fashion’s future must be wildlife-friendly.

Together, we can help end the exploitation of ostriches for fashion and inspire more brands, retailers and fashion events to protect wild animals.

Wildlife free fashion

Right now, millions of wild animals are being captured, abused, bred, and mercilessly slaughtered so that the fashion industry can maximise their profit.
