Chicken on a farm

HelloFresh joins the Better Chicken Commitment in New Zealand

News

HelloFresh, the world’s largest meal kit company, has made a commitment to move away from using fast-growing chicken breeds that suffer from painful heart, lung, and bone problems.

It also means the chickens in their Aotearoa New Zealand supply chain will have more space to move around, more natural light and enrichment such as straw bales to explore and peck, so they can behave more naturally.

The Australia-New Zealand Better Chicken Commitment lays out strict, science-based standards for rearing chickens farmed for meat; standards which far exceed those currently set by the New Zealand government.

The ANZ Better Chicken Commitment is backed by 15 animal organisations including World Animal Protection, Animals Aotearoa, the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Aotearoa (VAWA) and Compassion in World Farming.

HelloFresh New Zealand’s commitment follows their overseas progress where they have already signed the Better Chicken Commitment in Europe and the United States.

Together, we'll continue calling on global food companies to take a lead on animal welfare and ensure that any chickens that are being served at their restaurants are guaranteed a life worth living.
