Endorsing the Plant Based Treaty to combat the climate emergency

There is a climate, ocean, biodiversity and animal welfare crisis, but the solutions are right before our eyes. The future is not just in our hands but on our plates. We need to phase out fossil fuels and transition to a plant-based diet. Action is required at all levels, from individuals, to business to government. 

Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation and biodiversity loss, and the expansion must be stopped. Eat plants, plant trees and endorse the Plant Based Treaty. Ending fossil fuels alone will not avoid climate breakdown, we must do both and we must do it now. 

The Plant Based Treaty is modeled on the popular Fossil Fuel Treaty. The initiative is a grassroots campaign designed to put food systems at the forefront of combatting the climate crisis. It depends upon people power to bring this Treaty to the international negotiating table so everyone can get involved. 

Now that the Plant Based Treaty has officially launched, city representatives across the globe are invited to endorse the Treaty, which will create bottom-up pressure for governments and world leaders to negotiate a global agreement to halt the impact of animal agriculture on the planet. 

Plant based demonstrations and events were recently held at around 80 city halls across the world, asking councillors at the city level to endorse the Treaty. The more cities participating, the louder the collective voices for a swift transition to a plant-based world.
