Animals during the war in Ukraine

News

Animals are often the forgotten victims in times of crisis. Here is how you can help during the war in Ukraine

Pet owners are often forced to make the distressing decision to abandon their pets in times of crisis – leaving the animals alone, scared and hungry.

Even when people choose to have their beloved pets in tow it can be extremely traumatic for all involved.

Steve McIvor, CEO, World Animal Protection said:

“The situation unfolding in Ukraine is terrifying for both people and animals. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic situation. We stand in solidarity with animal organizations providing vital support on the ground in this terrible crisis.”

How you can help

While the misery and tragedies created by the war in the Ukraine are everywhere we look in the media, we know that this is not the only conflict that is causing unspeakable suffering to people and animals. No one war, no one country, no one animal deserves more compassion or assistance.

If you would like to learn more about how to help animals affected by the Ukraine crisis, you can find out more at ifaw.org and hsi.org.

We also encourage you to support and research animal protection organizations on the ground in the following countries experiencing war: Afghanistan, Israel-Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Mexico, Somalia and Libya.
